First, I want to use and blend hardwoods of exceptional beauty that pays homage to the trees that created them. Second, I want to use the grain patterns in each piece of wood to create designs of interest that show the deeper intricacies of the wood. And lastly, I want to create a near mirror finish that provides a sensory touch experience that complements the visual experience.
I am a local artisan in the Fredericksburg VA area. Although I retired from a law enforcement career, my grandfather and great grandfather were woodworkers and many of my extended family are woodworkers. I have been working with wood for most of my life and now I am inspired to bring interest and beauty to functional items.
My favorite pieces are end grain cutting boards. I have noticed over the years that end grain cutting boards often become family heirlooms, and are passed down for decades because of their strength, beauty and resiliency. An older end grain cutting board in someone’s kitchen almost always has an interesting story.
